While frustrated Boise State football fans tried to get over a loss to Fresno State in the Mountain West title game, the Bronco men’s basketball team gave them something to be a bit happier about Saturday night.
Behind a career-high 25 points from Max Rice and 20 points from Marcus Shaver Jr. the Broncos picked up a huge 86-71 win over Texas A&M in a neutral site game at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
Boise State now has wins over Washington State, Colorado and Texas A&M, giving them three wins over Power 5 opponents in the same season for the first time in program history.
The Broncos (6-2) have won five games in a row and have soured to No. 58 in the KenPom.com rankings.
Rice was 8-for-12 from the field and hit a trio of 3-pointers for the Broncos, who led from start to finish in their most impressive win of the season.
Shaver Jr. had 20 points despite going 3 of 7 from the field thanks to an 11-for-12 night at the foul line.
Chibuzo Agbo had 13 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double and Naje Smith had 11 for Boise State, which had a season-high 11 made 3-pointers to go along with a season-high 19 assists.
The win was No. 250 for Leon Rice at Boise State as he continues to add to his lead as the winningest coach in program history.
The Broncos host Eastern Oregon on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Saint Louis (No. 42 KenPom) for another huge game next Saturday.
