Boise State made another big splash in the transfer portal Wednesday, landing a commitment from 7-foot Arizona transfer Dylan Anderson.
The Broncos beat out several big-time programs for Anderson including Washington, Creighton and Texas. He’s expected to immediately be in the mix for the starting spot at center, which could slide O’Mar Stanley to the four and Tyson Degenhart to the three.
The news comes a day after Boise State received a commitment from NAIA All-American Javan Buchanan.
Anderson, a two-time Gatorade State Player of the Year in Arizona, redshirted at Arizona last season due to a plethora of post players on the Wildcats’ roster. He reportedly made big improvements while sitting out and was expected to be a contributor at Arizona next season before entering the transfer portal.
Sources told BNN a number of boosters stepped up to make a lucrative NIL offer to Anderson following his visit last weekend.
Anderson, who has three years of eligibility remaining, was the No. 50 player in the 2022 class according to 247Sports when he signed with Arizona. He originally picked the Wildcats over several high-level offers, including one from Gonzaga. It’s believed he’ll be the second-highest ranked prep recruit to ever suit up for the Broncos.
The center played in 15 games as a true freshman during the 2022-23 season and averaged 1.4 points and 0.6 rebounds before electing to redshirt last season. He’s a stretch five who can shoot from the outside – making him a perfect fit for Boise State’s offense.
Boise State has now added Anderson, San Jose State point guard Alvaro Cardenas and NAIA star Javan Buchanan through the transfer portal in recent weeks as they look to replace starters Roddie Anderson, Chibuzo Agbo and Max Rice.
While Agbo will be tough to replace, the Broncos appear to have upgraded the roster overall with Cardenas at the point guard spot and Anderson at center. Some combination of Buchanan, Andrew Meadow, RJ Keene, Chris Lockett Jr., Pearson Carmichael and Julian Bowie will take Agbo’s minutes.
The Broncos still have two scholarships remaining, but both are expected to either go to developmental players or be saved for mid-year transfers.
