Boise State continued to reload its roster Wednesday with a commitment from NAIA star Javan Buchanan, winning a competitive recruiting battle that included Texas Tech and others.
Sources confirmed the commitment to Bronco Nation News on Wednesday.
Buchanan was a first-team NAIA All-American after averaging 20.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.1 steals per game at Indiana Wesleyan last season.
He visited Nevada, Boise State and Texas Tech before committing to the Broncos this week. Sources say Boise State made a lucrative NIL offer to land Buchanan, who was being targeted heavily by Texas Tech among others.
Buchanan shot 51.9 percent from the field last season, including 35 percent from 3-point range (41 for 117). He also was a strong shooter from the free throw line, connecting on 84.5 percent (131 of 135).
He had six games with at least 30 points including a career-high 37 against Tennessee Southern. He was sixth in scoring in the NAIA last year and fourth in made field goals.
Buchanan, who helped Indiana Wesleyan to the NAIA Quarterfinals, has two years of eligibility remaining. He’s expected to compete for a starting spot at the wing and figures to make an immediate impact for a Boise State team looking to replace all three starting guards from last season.
Boise State, which already has added projected starting point guard Alvaro Cardenas from San Jose State, still has three scholarships available. But at least one is expected to go to a developmental player or be saved for a mid-year transfer.
