I have to conclude that several things are in play here.

Either the coaches know of (at least) three players who are no longer on the team but the news of those departures is not known publicly.

OR some of the incoming freshmen who are said to be joining the team in August will be grey-shirted next fall (like Syncere Brackett) and won't be joining the team till next January.

Another big TE commit from LSU.  Huge guy.  Some chatter on the other board that he might be slotted for OT.   We must be losing some more players, or SD found a way to hide them from the NCAA....

Go Broncos!

He's listed as 6' 5" 265 lbs so unless he puts on 30 lbs I can't see him playing on the O-line.

As to the number of scholarships we all have to recognize that the coaching staff KNOWS who will - and more importantly - who will NOT be in camp in August.   I try not to worry about the numbers working out as I have no doubt (at all) that it will all work out in August.   However the other side of my brain is screaming YOU HAVE TOO MANY GUYS ON SCHOLARSHIP........WTF IS UP WITH THAT?

P.S. With this newest addition to the team my "count" is now at 89 guys on scholarship for 2024.

P.P.S. I think it's great that Koetter is (apparently) going to be making the Tight Ends relevant again - unlike the last five (or more) years at Boise State.

The story on him on the KTVB website says he has two years of eligibility left but I'm wondering how accurate that is because he played in 2022 at Butte College in Colorado as a "Freshman" and only played in 1 game that season.  Then in 2023, at L.S.U., he was listed as a "Junior".   How does that make any sense to anyone?  It certainly doesn't make sense to me as he SHOULD have been a RS Freshman last season at L.S.U.

Additionally he was a 2022 High School graduate according to the 247 Database:

https://247sports.com/college/boise-state/season/2022-football/recruits/?&Player.FullName=Connor%20Gilbreath

And this H.S. info on him listed him - in 2022 - at 6' 5" 272 lbs.  Yet he was listed as 245 lbs on the Butte College 2022 roster and listed again in 2023 at L.S.U. at 265 lbs.

As I see it he would be a RS Sophomore in 2024 at Boise State.

Also how does someone who plays in 1 game in 2022 at a Junior College in Colorado get signed by L.S.U. and then play in 13 games for the S.E.C. Louisiana State University Tigers in 2023?   Things don't make any sense here (to me at least).

According to a tweet by Ron Counts the father of Connor Gilbreath confirmed that his son is going to be developed into an offensive lineman.   Call me crazy but this seems nuts to me.  They already have 15 scholarship offensive linemen for the 2024 season including one former Boise State defensive lineman (Talo) and a Junior College All-American transfer and a transferring starting O-lineman from San Jose State.   I don't see the need for another O-lineman UNLESS one of the current scholarship O-linemen is one of the as yet unnamed departures.

Another thing to keep in mind is the fact that - currently - Boise State has 28 players who have been added to the team for the 2024 recruiting class.   And I know that the rules were changed a few years ago which allowed schools to sign more than 25 new players IF they needed to do so in order to get back to 85 total scholarships.  But that was NOT the case for Boise State.

One of these 28 new additions is Syncere Brackett - who won't be joining the team till Jan. 2025 - so I have to think that at least two more of these 28 players is going to go the same route as Brackett.

Butte College is in California (LSU page had that in error). Also Butte College's stats page say 1 game played, but his hudl videos have Juco highlights from 10 games. He had offers from 3 SEC teams and 3 former PAC teams out of JUCO.
Connor Gilbreath - Hudl

Something is weird with his classification maybe because he went to a year of prep school after high school.

From Chico Entreprise-Record:

Gilbreath spent one season at Butte College after coming to the Roadrunners from University Prep High School in Redding. He originally committed to the NAIA school Southern Oregon, but shortly after high school graduation in 2022 he de-committed to Southern Oregon and opted for Butte College instead.
