Roster changes
Quote from football53 on December 1, 2021, 12:52 amI expect a lot of roster changes on the football team in the next month. I hope its not like Fresno State right now who just lost their top two players to the portal

Quote from B.J. Rains on December 1, 2021, 1:52 amThe new rule allowing players to transfer without having to sit out a year will continue to lead to more transfers across the country. Players previously might have wanted to transfer but wouldn't do it since they've have to sit out a year. That's not the case anymore.
A first year coach typically sees turnover after the season. Avalos kicked multiple players off the team during the year and it wouldn't surprise me to see a few guys he didn't mesh with decide to go elsewhere. Remember nearly every player on this roster committed when Bryan Harsin was head coach - Not Avalos.
Curious which players you think might be gone?

Quote from Broncosontheblue on December 1, 2021, 4:55 amOne of the ways that you keep guys from transferring is to get them invested and involved in the program. Under Petersen, every single player had a role, Pete created special packages" to get guys on the field early and often. We would routinely see 50-60 guys on the field on game day. Not only did this keep guys invested in the program, but it was critical to player development. Under Harsin, this all went away. He had his favorite 22, and his 4 or 5 that would touch the ball. We saw player attrition increase significantly, and player development drop off the cliff.
Hopefully, Avalos can get back to this mentality. I truly do think it will help with player attrition. Guys arent as eager to leave when they are seeing the field.

I think there is a good chance AVB is gone. I could see other RBs like Smith and Tyler enter the portal. Do we know if CHL has yet made a decision to use his covid year?
Other players I wonder about who could leave:
Leong OL, Holliday OL, Harrington OL, Kline EDGE, Verner CB, Clark Safety, Whiting WR, and Reed CB.
Any word on if Evans will return?
Do you think any big impact players could transfer at BSU? Dillon Gabriel and Jake Haener are transferring from their schools

Quote from 8ntmuch on December 1, 2021, 12:51 pmI'm not sure I see AVB transferring out, he loves this staff and knows his role. If Jeanty indeed signs early like we are hoping, I could see one of the others possibly testing the waters. I believe it was already said that CHL was coming back. Reed also isn't going anywhere. 1, coming off injury, 2, knows that spot is his to loss. He'll be ready to roll come next season. Hoping Evens takes advantage of another year of eligibility. Still unclear why he didn't play at SDSU, he's been through so much I'd love a full healthy year out of him.

I think there is a good chance AVB is 4th on the depth chart next year. Also he has hinted that this might be his last year at BSU already.
I should have clarified about CB Reed. I meant Jared Reed not Markel Reed.

Quote from 8ntmuch on December 1, 2021, 1:32 pmIf AVB leaves, I'd think its more because its time to move on in life outside of football. He's a Bronco through and through. Ha! Yeah, clarification on Reed's helps! lol I actually do not believe Jared leaves either. Outside of his injury, he seems super happy here.

I believe you will see the portal slow down in 3-4 years. Just because you go into the portal does not mean you are guaranteed a new scholarship somewhere else. I think you will begin to hear more horror stories about players who entered the portal and no one ever reached out to them with a new opportunity. As a player you better have a previous relationship with other coaching staffs or you could be left without an opportunity. The vast majority of the players in the portal are there because they were not playing at their previous school, so how does a coach decide whether you are worth the risk if you have no tape at the collegiate level?

Quote from B.J. Rains on December 1, 2021, 5:27 pmAVB is likely gone based on his media interview with us before Senior Night. He strongly hinted about not returning and said he was treating it like his senior day. I'd expect Van Buren to transfer elsewhere.
