Mountain West Power Rankings
Quote from Collin Mitchell on January 9, 2023, 2:35 pmAfter typing up this week's edition of the BNN Mountain West Roundup, I decided to do a conference power rankings of my own. Let me know what you think and give your thoughts on any changes you would make!
1. San Diego State (#23 in the AP Poll)
2. Nevada
3. New Mexico
4. Boise State
5. Utah State
6. UNLV
7. San Jose State
8. Colorado State
9. Wyoming
10. Fresno State
11. Air Force
There is no avoiding the fact that the Mountain West is stacked this year, and I would expect these rankings to change a lot. I see SDSU as the clear front runner right now to win the MWC, with the 2-4 spots being a toss up this early in the season. New Mexico and Boise State really fell into the #3 A and B spots with the Lobos getting the upper hand simply due to overall record. I would expect Wyoming to make a large jump in the future but until Graham Ike returns to the lineup they're just a different team. Any team can beat anyone during conference play this season, and I'm excited to see how the rest of the season pans out.

I'd flip Boise and New Mexico and have UNLV swap places with Utah State as well. This is just based on recent successes for me. I'm giving UNLV a little more love even though they have started off 1-2 in conference play due to who they have had to play so far compared to the Aggies. I hold their W against New Mexico a little higher than either of Utah States W's against Air Force and Fresno then added on the 20+ loss they just suffered. My disappointment of a team so far this season I think goes to Colorado State. They started off the year really well then suffered a bad loss to Northern Colorado to only come back and beat Saint Mary's just a few days later. Sit now with a 1-3 conference record. I do think they will be able to turn it around but if not, might be the most disappointing team in terms of what they did last season and the amount of returning talent they had back for this season.
