Shooting Woes

PreviousPage 2 of 2

I have to comment again, just finished watching the first half.  Only 8/17 free-throw shooting.  Horrid!  Watched how the Billikens shot, they were confident and smooth.  The Broncos pose too much, think about the shot too much, not natural.  Oh well, typical Rice coached team.  Only this year they didn't wait until February for this to show up.  Me thinks the Billikens are very confident and will blow our Broncos off the floor in the second half.  Hopefully I am wrong....

12-26 from the free throw line is not going to win any games.

Very poor leadership on the floor.  I know Kijab had a monster game but it means nothing when he disappears at the critical moments with the game on the line.  Plus, Akot had his defender in the air in the lane with 3 seconds left and does a fade away??????  Just a simple bump while trying a jumper puts him on the line to win.  But then, 12-26 from the charity stripe?  Even him making one free throw would be dicey.  I may be hurting some Rice supporters but he has to go.  This is classic trademark Rice team, no team leadership at critical points - choking the game away.  Make a visit to the Broncocountry message boards about this game, the pitchforks and torches are out in force....

12 of 26 free throws!  St. Louis shot 30 of 34.  If a team can't shoot free throws, IT IS THE COACH'S FAULT!!!  No player should be able to leave practice without making ten in a row.

I am sure the team will study film, practice defense, shoot lots of 3 pointers and run some offensive plays.  But what could they spend time on that would provide the most benefit?  Free throws!  The Broncos left at least 20+ points on the free throw line (including missed first half of 1 and 1's).

I don't want to hear anything about "Open Looks" from Rice.  They missed 14 open looks on the free throw line.

Free throw shooting was horrendous tonight. Broncos are on a historically bad pace. I just finished writing an article about it. Can't win games if you can't make free throws. Just ugly.

Free throws doom Broncos in overtime loss to Saint Louis
