Nebraska QB rumored to be (possibly) transferring to Boise State

Page 1 of 3Next

This has been discussed on the 247 forum pretty extensively but I found an article on this which mentions something I had not seen mentioned over there.   See if YOU can spot what I'm referring to here:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/other/nebraska-quarterback-chubba-purdy-s-father-confirms-he-s-transferring/ar-AA1lODNl

HINT - It has to do with his eligibility.

Another story on this:

Would be a fun addition. Another true dual threat QB that would put a ton of stress on defenses. Should hopefully hear something soon regarding him if its true that he needs to make a decision by the 27th to remain immediately eligible. Seems like we are still the only named school that's been publicly linked to him. Probably overstating how much that means but haven't seen much chatter about other potential teams being mentioned either yet. Fingers crossed 🤞

The article found in the first message in this thread mentioned that Purdy must find a new school BEFORE Dec. 27th, i.e., as of today (Friday the 22nd) he has four days to find that new school.  That would mean no later than next Tuesday.

"second-time transfers may allow Purdy to have immediate eligibility, so long as he leaves Nebraska and finds a new program before December 27."

Apparently that concern (about getting a new school before the 27th) is a moot point according to this story:

Since this story broke a few days ago, I have been looking at Chubba's high school tapes and came away impressed.  I like the two winning years when he was the starter.  Nearly 3500 passing yards and he can take off and run.  Not sure what FSU did to him while he was there and we know Nebraska is a dumpster fire.  The concern I have is that this would be the third head coach and who knows how many OCs that he would have to adjust.  But, I think Bush and Spencer can find his potential and give him a boost past mister irrelevant (his brother's draft position).

Purdy picked up 3 offers today (or 12/23, depending on when you are reading this). Cal, TCU and North Texas. No signs of a Boise State offer yet. I truly believe one of the bigger Nebraska beat guys didn't randomly single out Boise State just for the hell of it. Whether or not he ends up with us is an entirely different story. Every day the portal QB landscape changes. We may not end up with Purdy when its all said and done but do believe we will end up with a QB that could come in and be a starter and simply not just a depth guy.

Classes start Jan 12, so we will have to sign somebody soon to get them registered and on campus for spring semester, so they can participate in spring camp.  Kind of disappointed in how Bush and SD are handling the portal process, we are very slow and deliberate.  Hopefully soon we can get a good QB1 to start next year and mentor Tiller and the other QB's.

Go Broncos!

Did this on the other forum but wanted to post something similar here as well for potential portal QB targets. Most of the guys on my original preferred list have already found their new spots. But here are a few names to keep an eye on imo:

  • Dylan Morris (Washington) - To me he is the "most likely" portal QB for us. Hamdan brought him to UW when he was still on their staff and it just feels like he will ultimately be our guy here.
  • Bryson Barnes (Utah) - Sort of the same feeling about Dylan Morris. I think BB is another "more likely" candidate for us. Was Utah's go-to starter this year with Cam Rising out.
  • Chubba Purdy (Nebraska) - The reason this thread exists! He has been the only known portal QB that has been linked to Boise. Ceiling is very high with him being a dual threat. I think Hamdan can get the most out of his abilities.
  • Matthew Sluka (Holy Cross) - To be honest, we probably have no shot at him. His HC from Holy Cross is the new HC at James Madison. I expect him to probably end up there. We would only get him for 1 year but there probably isnt a more productive QB left in the portal than Sluka. Almost 100 career TDs, nearly 6k passing yards, 3500 rushing yards. Go watch his highlights. Its a very fun watch.
  • Ty Thompson (Oregon) - Think this was a lot of fans initial top target when he entered his name into the portal. Seems like he took a visit to NC State and might have taken one to Oregon State as well. Both places have filled their QB need through the portal already though.

There are a handful of other intriguing names as well (tbh didn't feel like typing anymore 😂). This is just my updated shortlist.

Add to your list, Jake Garcia.

He was a top 25 five star signed by Florida St.,  then transferred to Missouri.  He has been on the bench the last year.  But Bush and Drink probably still talk on occasion.  He is from Whittier Ca. He played his senior year in Georgia because California ruled him ineligible.  He led his Georgia high school to the state title.

He might have 3 seasons, but more than likely 2 remaining.
