Tiller looks a little wide-eyed

momentum swing

Unless a miracle,  game over. Tiller can't hit anything down field and UCLA is stuffing the box.

Game over now. 28-16. We are getting embarrassed.

I know it’s Tiler’s 1st game and UCLA has a PAC defense, but Tiller has not shown me anything today.  He has missed a lot of receivers and is fortunate there are not any Int’s on his stats.

Santa, can we get a top flight QB and some upgraded DB’s please?

With Oregon, OSU and WSU on our schedule next year it will be another bad season without a top flight QB. Plus some really good and speedy DB's. I worry about this emotional hire of SD. He really is late hitting the portal now. The dead period starts real soon.

Tiller was was over his head today.  But let's not write him off after one game.

I watch that game thinking we NEED a transfer QB bad for 2024.  Madsen is pretty good, but limited. Tiller today looked like he needs another year in the system, maybe 2025 starter.

Seems like transfer QBs would view BSU as good place.  Good chance of starting, gett to play with best RB in nation.  Good chance to put up big numbers.

Thoughts on the game. Will try to keep it short:

Offense: We were limited on what we could do today. Thats really not on Tiller at all. He was asked to play in a tough spot with having basically 0 reps this season. The OL and RBs deserve a lot of praise. Constantly having to face a stacked box and run blitzes and still rush for over 200 and 4 ypc? Those 2 groups were special this season. Was happy to see Holani finish with a great game.

Defense: Early on we were rallying to the ball well and preventing them from doing any damage but overall, very overmatched. Felt like a lot of it has to deal with how thin we are depth wise right now. We really needed to find ways to create turnovers today and just couldnt get it done. It happens. We should (hopefully) have a very experienced group next season. They took their lumps this year but that could be a good thing in the long run.

Special teams: Dalmas and JFR did everything we asked of them and more. Kickoff team still suspect but its been that way all year.

Overall: If you were to tell me that we would finish the year with 6 losses and somehow still win the conference. There is no shot in hell I'd believe you. I think Coach D is going to surprise people. I know on social media some people are already being insufferable cause we lost. But idk what else they really expected. UCLA is no slouch of a team despite the record and we were having to play with 1 arm tied behind our backs with the playcalls on offense (not a dig at Bush). Not a recipe for success but just had to deal with the cards that were dealt. My 3 big area's of need for this team is finding a QB who can come in and legitimately push both Madsen and Tiller for the starting job under center, another playmaker (or 2) at WR and creating good depth at DE/Edge spots. I think Coach D and the staff will address all the needs they seem fit and think a few names we bring in will surprise people. Onto 2024!

I hate seeing all the posts this morning trying to demean Tiller.  Frankly I find that offensive in the extreme. This KID, who was in High School at this time last year, did an excellent job as far as I was concerned. Considering the fact that he had never thrown a single pass in a college game prior to yesterday.  Shame on those who are trying to put this young man down because he wasn't the 2nd coming of Kellen Moore.  Fact is he completed more than 50 percent of his passes (12 of 21) against one of the best defenses in the country (as the announcers of the game kept reminding everyone).  And he also threw only one interception against that same defense.

The real problem as I saw it was absolutely NOT the play of C. J. Tiller it was the fact that Bush Hamdan completely abandoned the offense that served them very well in the first half and in the 2nd half he started half of the offensive series in the 3rd quarter by having Tiller pass on first down instead of staying with what worked in the first half, i.e., lots and lots and lots of Holani and Jeanty (runs or passes).
