Timing for naming next coach

Thoughts on when next coach will be named. I have went back and forth on this, but I think it will be this week, like either Wednesday or Thursday is my best guess. I know BJ was saying he doesn't think it will happen before Mtn West Championsihp game (assuming we get in).

The more I think about it the more I think it almost has to happen before. Transfer portal opens Dec 4th. We want as many days as possible for new coach to head off transfers the first day. I don't see them waiting till after Mtn west championship game to name new coach...

I really don't see Spencer Danielson being named head coach or ever a serious candidate. He may well be head coach at BSU one day, but don't see timing being quite right.

It's hard because if you name the head coach before the Championship game, and if he isn't Danielson, then you gut the team before the biggest game since UW, but as you say, if you wait, then you lose recruits. I will not argue with the results, but timing questions like these are why mid-season terminations are so hard to manage.

I think it would be better to do it afterwards, first for the teams moralebut also if Boise State loses then you can use that to justify a choice other than SD and if Boise State wins then you can use the celebration to build the hype of the hire.

It was natural for players to vest in Spencer - he’s an I Appreciate You Coach vs the previous Totalitarian environment. After the Championship game, though razor-thin to the portal, won’t muddy emotions. The Players do not need another emotional roller coaster before the big game. Spencer is a Good Man and Coach, Boise State should give him every opportunity to stay with the program in whatever capacity that is available.

Said on the other forums that i thought it would be the 3rd or 4th. I think we will get a little more clarity right before the game on Saturday then a possible announcement on Sunday. Then introduction on Monday/Tuesday

Well looking like I was wrong, BJ said BSU is saying nothing announced till after Mtn West Championship. I think this is the wrong call. New HC could already be hitting transfer portal this week if he was announced and getting to know current players and trying to prevent them from hitting transfer portal.

There is almost zero percent chance it is Danielson if they are waiting. No reason you would wait if you just hiring the in house guy.

I think the right play is waiting until after the game. They dont want the focus to be away from the players and the championship game. Any kind of announcement (other than naming SD the coach) takes away from that. No matter who the HC ends up being they will have plenty of time to dig into the portal for players to bring in and able to create relationships with the current commits to try and keep them on board.

This is college football after all. I'd put money down on us getting some sort of leak prior to Saturdays game. Almost impossible to keep things like this under wraps for too much longer.

Dickey going to name someone besides Danielson the HC tomorrow? That would sure feel weird. Feel like, unless they worked out a deal with Kellen that Danielson will be named HC tomorrow. Dickey going another direction would seem to me to be HUGE risk. Bigger risk than just hiring Danielson. Still think if kellen wants the job, he gets the job

I'm sure you all noticed Coach Pete was wearing the latest Boise State coaches gear on FOX? He wasn't in the LA studios, but of the field and the booth being interviewed. One poster on the other board said Fox announced that there would be a major announcement tonight. FWIW

The best scenario is Pete coming back to mentor SD, keep SD and associate head coach, to learn from Pete for 2-3 years. Yeah, I know, pie in the sky dream. But a guy and dream, can he?
