Revised Expectations

Whew! Glad we could put away Tulsa late last night, and nice to see some of those free throws finally drop when it counted.

That said...how are we feeling about this team going forward? I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed, a notion I'm sure most of you share. I was thinking we'd be 6-2 or 5-3 at WORST right about now.

I'd expect us to win AT LEAST 3 of the next 4, bringing us to 7-5 heading into the tilt with Washington State. But can we make it to conference play above .500?

I'd also be lying if I said I hadn't DRASTICALLY revised my expectations for MW play. Do we have the talent to finish in the top 4? Top 6? Top 8? The way the schedule lines up (Fresno, Wyoming, Utah St, Colorado State, Nevada) early, I'm thinking we might take losses in 4 of the first 5 conference games.

Thoughts?

I think the hope for Boise State fans should be that all these tough games early (four in the top 90, all eight in the top 204) will toughen them up, help them figure some things out and give them some confidence they can pull out some of these games late.

Sure last night wasn't perfect (25 turnovers, 8 for 16 from the foul line), but I do think the new-look lineup with Degenhart will prove to be a win for the Broncos moving forward.

Schedule is maybe the toughest in Leon's tenure. Don't have obvious top 10 team like Kansas or Duke, but to be eight games in and not have played any teams worse than 205 is pretty crazy.

The record isn't what fans or the Broncos would want, but I would also say this: is there a team in the Mountain West you for sure don't think Boise State can beat? I'd say no. Colorado State is good, but there's no top-5 team like Nevada or SDSU in years past where the Broncos had no shot. So it's not totally crazy to think Boise State could figure some things out, go on a run and finish near the top of the conference.

Is it likely? I wouldn't say that. Is it certainly possible and if I were an optimistic Broncos fan is that what I'd cling hope to? Yes.

Still pretty optimistic for this season. The CSU-Bakersfield loss will hurt later down in the season but overall i still think this team finds a way to get over the 20 win mark while possibly being able to steal games from CSU, USU and SDSU. Team has issues to figure out when it comes to FT shooting but last night seeing them bury i think it was like 6-8 down the stretch? I hope that is a sign of improvement and they can carry that into the following games. Team is still super talented. Hoping we can get consistent production from our bench guys(which hasnt been bad by any means so far). Still a long ways to go this season!
