Last Boise State fall softball game changed

The last scheduled Boise State softball game for this fall has been rescheduled from this coming Friday the 20th (time TBD) to this coming Saturday the 21st at Noon. I'm ASSUMING this game will still be against Northwest Nazarene but that detail was not mentioned on the Boise State Softball Facebook post which announced this change.

I might slip over there depending on what is happening in the volleyball game. But since they both start at noon, I will have to depend on someone else to update us.

That U.N.L.V. match (here in Boise on Saturday) is intriguing in that U.N.L.V. and Utah State were both picked - in a tie - in the preseason poll to finish in 1st place this season in Volleyball. Utah State is doing that while U.N.L.V. has lost four of their last five Mountain West Conference matches and three of those four losses were 0-3 losses (to Colorado State, New Mexico and Fresno State). Plus U.N.L.V. hosts # 1 Utah State tonight so they are likely to be 1-5 in their last six MWC matches before heading to Boise for Saturday's match. A loss to Boise State would make that 1-6 in their last seven MWC matches with their only MWC win in that stretch being a 3-1 over Air Force (in Vegas).

I attended the last Boise State fall softball game today - at least thru the first 7 innings. It was slated to be for 10 innings. The score was 6-4 Boise State over NNU when I left.

The first lineup for Boise State - as far as I could tell - was the following:

C - Brooklyn Pettis

1B - Karizma Bergesen

2B - Abby Bumcrot

SS Keely Gousha

3B - Hollie Farmer

RF - Taci Haase

CF - Sophia Knight

LF - Mykenzie Hanna

DP - Isabel Guzman

SP - Taylor Caudill

After the first five innings the lineup was changed almost completely. And other than McAnally at Catcher and Ashlyn Whalen at 1B I could not figure out who the other player positions were by person. But the 2nd batting lineup - as far as I could tell - was the following:

# 18 - Ashlyn Whalen - 1B

# 35 - Leah McAnally - C

# 26 - But this was NOT Isabel Guzman. It was someone else other than Guzman wearing the # 26 batting helmet.

# 99 - Sophia Romero

#19 - Skylar Stroh

# 48- Savannah Smith

# 25 - Kassidy Stiles

# 6 - Megan Lake

# 28 - Jordyn Hutchins

Jenna Bloom replaced Taylor Caudill as the pitcher in the top of the 4th inning. She was replaced in the 5th inning by - I THINK it was Abby Dowell. The score was 4-0 when that 2nd pitching change took place.

Notably absent were Sydney Groves who was there but was not dressed for the game (casual clothes) and Alycia Flores - who - as far as I could tell - did not play today. But I could easily be wrong about that.

Just GUESSING (can't emphasize that enough) but if I had to predict what the 2024 Boise State softball team lineup MIGHT be based on what I saw of the fall games I'd go with the following:

Catcher - Isabel Gusman - Grad Student & Leah McAnally - True FR (could be either one)

First Base - Karizma Bergesen - RS Senior & Ashlyn Whalen - 4th year Senior

Second Base - Abby Bumcrot - 4th year Senior & Skylar Stroh - True FR

Shortstop - Keely Gousha - True FR & Hollie Farmer - True SO

Third Base - Sydney Groves - True SO & Hollie Farmer - True SO

Right Field - Alycia Flores - RS Senior - Taci Haase - RS FR

Center Field - Mykenzie Hanna - Junior - Megan Lake - Junior - Sophia Knight - True FR

Left Field - Jordyn Hutchins - 4th year Senior - Mykenzie Hanna

Designated Player - T.B.D.

# 1 Pitcher - Taylor Caudill - 4th year Senior

# 2 Pitcher - Jenna Bloom - RS Senior/Grad Student

# 3 Pitcher - T.B.D.

1st base v DP - Looking at Bergesen's stats, she hit .340 last year for SJSU. Not many HRs last year but in 2022, she hit 9 with 22 RBIs. Whalen hit .283 with 3 HRs and 3 HRs. Add in Sydney Groves to the mix who played a lot of 1st last season, hit .276, 9 Hrs and 32 RBIs. I can see all of these players taking games at 1st and DP. Add in Farmer to this because she took some games at 1st last season. Also, Kylee Morgan was hitting .400 in limited action at JUCO. I think she was limited due to injuries.

Pitcher - Agree with your assessment, but we need to get the left hand power of Kasey Aguinaga some games. She was thrown into the mix during the hard games last year and hopefully she can get her confidence back. Also, I would like to see Brook Thompson in the game. She had some wins last year.
