According to a fairly lengthy article today in the Idaho Statesman the end of season MWC softball tournament will involve the top six teams in the Mountain West Conference. The top two teams will have a first round bye. Teams seeded # 3 thru # 6 will play in the first round and the two winners of those games will then face the # 1 and # 2 seeds in the 2nd round. This is a single elimination tournament in the first round but a double elimination tournament after the first round. Meaning the losers of the two first round games are eliminated. The winner of this tournament gets an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
P.S. There are nine softball programs involved in the MWC so that means that three of the nine MWC softball teams will not be participating in this tournament.
