22-23 WBB Thread

Any fans on here that have followed the women's team over the years and go to games? We got going to several pre-pandemic and always loved watching Gordy's squads and that 4th straight championship! They definitely got bit by the 2020 tourney cancellation and some injuries/transfers but seems like Gordy has made an effort to invest in young OKGs last year to rebuild the program. They seem capable of some good conference upsets and a finish closer to the top this year!

Watched a handful of their games this season. Felt like this team has solid pieces. Especially at the forward position in Lalotte and Muse. Seems like its taking the team a little longer to gel but starting out conference play 2-0 is huge. Hopefully they can keep it up and build upon their good start so we can get back to running the conference again.

I have watched nearly every game.  The Freshmen are the strength of the team.  Bayes, Hansen and Pasco are all capable of scoring 20+ on a given night.  Also, we have only seen Tatum Thompson in one or two games since coming back from an injury.  When I talked to her before Christmas, she said they were hoping to get back early in January.  I know Tatum is on a pitch count to preserve her knee, but if we are able to keep all of these freshmen for several years (hate transfer portal), then we will have solid back court players.

In the last game, it was good to see the upperclassmen step it up.  Up until then, I had concerns with the more seasoned guards and their ability to contribute.  But, they came on and showed their stuff.  As far as Lalotte and Muse, I am really impressed that Abby is such a good shot blocker and rebounder.  It takes her about 15 minutes to get her shooting figured out, but usually does. As far as Lalotte, she has the ability to get the ball on the left post and make a hook or lefty layup.  She was killing it in five of the first six games, but seems to have started posting on the right now.  So I hope she gets that back in the arsenal.  It is really hard to defend.  And she needs to control the ball better to avoid turnovers, but she is capable of doing that.

Really tough game for the Women on Wednesday night.  They kept it close until the last minute of the third, then the wheels came off. CSU had this little PG that played off the pick.  She was either hitting the shots or dishing to her big.  Then their shooting guard would find a bit of space and drain shots, especially in the 4th.  CSU takes care of the ball, only 7 turnovers in the game.

Here's the press release from last night's loss at UNLV...

LAS VEGAS – UNLV defeated Boise State 73-61, Monday, in Cox Pavilion.
Abby Muse started things early for the Broncos (7-11, 2-3 MW), scoring eight points on 4-of-5 shooting in the first quarter. Mary Kay Naro was also a key contributor early, dishing out four assists in the opening period and hitting a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Broncos a 21-16 lead.
The Lady Rebels (17-2, 7-0)  didn't back down, opening the second quarter on a 10-0 run to retake the lead. Dani Bayes stopped the bleeding with a 3-pointer midway through the period to cut the lead to 26-24. The teams struggled to score late in the quarter, combining for only seven points as the Broncos trailed 30-27 at halftime.
UNLV came out hot out of the break, shooting 55.6% from the field and draining five 3-pointers in the third quarter. The Lady Rebels ended the quarter on a 19-2 run to take a 60-43 lead into the final period. Elodie Lalotte did her best to bring the Broncos back, scoring six points in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter as Boise State cut the deficit to 12, but it wasn't enough as UNLV prevailed 73-61.

- Abby Muse recorded two blocks during the game, marking the seventh straight game Muse has recorded two or more blocks in a game.
-  Boise State outrebounded UNLV 41-27 on the night. The Broncos have outrebounded opponents in four of the team's five conference games.
What's Next
The Broncos will return home for a matchup against Fresno State, Thursday. The game will tip off at 6:30 p.m. MT in ExtraMile Arena.

Big conference game tonight for the women's basketball team.

Boise State hosts Fresno State at ExtraMile Arena with both teams looking to break three-game losing skids. The Broncos (#230 NET) and Bulldogs (#222 NET) look pretty even on paper, but based how conference play has gone for these two teams it looks as if the Broncos have the momentum. Even though both teams have lost the past three games, Boise State has faced an average NET ranking of #73 while Fresno State has faced an average of just #177.

Freshmen Mya Hansen and Dani Bayes have started to emerge as stars for Boise State in conference play and when combined with the veteran presence of Abby Muse and Elodie Lalotte, the Broncos are in good shape moving forward. Nonetheless, tonight is a big game for the Broncos. In order to stay afloat in the conference and gain some momentum for the rest of the season Boise State could use a win tonight.
