Spencer even said, "we're off the record now right?" before giving us some background on tampering, NIL, etc. It was great information for us to have and we were very appreciative Spencer took the time to do it - because frankly previous coaches around here haven't in the past.
Ron's initial report came from something that was off the record. I assume he got confused with the lengthy press conference and time afterwards and similar topics and tweeted before he checked for the quote. I believe it to be an honest mistake. Certainly it turned out to be a fire storm for Boise State and for him. As a media member fighting for access I hated to see what happened, but as someone who is around Ron a lot I know he works hard and wouldn't purposely do something like this.
I do believe had he just apologized and explained what happened earlier most would have accepted it and moved on. He didn't help things by deleting the old tweets and then offering no explanation or apology as to what happened. Again this post wasn't to bash Ron. Not at all. I think he made a big mistake, but it was an honest one with no ill-intent and I hate seeing him get beat up like this. He has a young daughter and a fiancee and juggles a lot - as do we all.
Just wanted to clarify a bit what actually happened with this post. We're very appreciative for the new access Spencer is giving us and I hope this doesn't change things. And I know Ron - and all of us - will work hard to make ure something like this doesn't happen again.
