Quote from Kevin Foster on October 31, 2022, 2:05 pmYup. He lasted about as long as i thought he would. The question on everyone's mind though......would he come back to BSU for the OC spot at the end of the year? He checks all the boxes. Very successful OC here, and a very successful HC as well. He was a QB himself, and a QB coach. This is something the next OC would probably need to have to keep developing Taylen. Would i welcome him back? Probably. Do i think it will happen? No. I don't think he'd be able to swallow his pride and go back to a school a few years removed from being HC. Dirk did it but it's different. His son is on the team, and he is basically retired and at the end of his career. Harsin is still in the middle of his.

Quote from tim5544 on October 31, 2022, 3:44 pmI think the numbers are like 15 million buyout - with half being due in 30 days, remainder paid out over length of contract? Correct me if I am wrong.
From what I can tell Harsin is going to be paid out over 20 million for less than 2 years work. Not a bad gig for him.
He is talented offensive coach. No doubt about that. Wonder if he stays in college or goes in NFL. I think him going like the Koetter path is something I could see. Goes to NFL becomes OC or maybe starts out as QB coach.
Also I think there is ZERO chance he wants to be BSU OC. A guy gets 15 mil payout, but wants to come work for 350k a year under a guy that he was the boss of for multiple years. NOT happening

Quote from Bronco7454 on October 31, 2022, 4:22 pmAccording to what I'm reading on this Harsin will be paid $7.25 million WITHIN THE NEXT THIRTY DAYS. The remainder of what he will be owed by Auburn will be paid to him in 4 equal payments (no time frame given for them) until he is paid the $15.5 million dollars he is owed as per his contract.
Two years ago Harsin's predecessor, Gus Malzahn, was paid $21.7 million as his buyout.
Harsin's overall record as a head coach - including his years at Boise State and at Arkansas State - now stands at 85 wins vs 36 losses. One third of his 36 losses, i.e., 12 of them, came at Auburn.

Quote from Broncosontheblue on November 1, 2022, 6:18 amZero chance Harsin comes back as OC. And why would we want him to? It has taken Avalos about a year and a half to reinstill the blue collar work ethic and Bronco culture we are known for. Harsin had successfully destroyed that culture.
Now that we are back to playing an exciting, fun brand of football, back to the Bronco Way that we haven't seen since before Harsin was hired, why would we want him anywhere near our program? I know I sure don't.

Eh, i'll play devils advocate here. Was it the Bronco way when the head coach made the decision to start Hank Bachmaier over Taylen Green to start the year? Not only did Andy start him at Oregon State, but then turned around and kept starting him until they finally hit rock bottom against UTEP. Do i like Andy Avalos? Absolutely. I was totally on board with the hire, and i think he has a lot to do with the defense being really really good. I think Harsin gets a bit of a bad rap. His teams were still regularly winning 10-11 games. Personally i'd welcome him back as OC. He is really good at it. But i agree i don't think it would work out between he and Andy, and it might be too much of a risk to even try it.

Quote from Broncosontheblue on November 1, 2022, 11:41 amPersonally, I thought Choate was the better choice for the job, but I have gotten on board with the hire. Regarding Hank over Green, I think Avalos didn't micromanage and allowed his OC to make OC decisions, but then held him (and Hank) accountable.
Back to Harsin, the guy is just a jerk. Yes, he won 10-11 games, but he never won the "big" ones and always lost at least 1 or 2 he shouldn't. Additionally, his coaches hated working for him and unprecedented numbers of players left the program when he was here. He was known to have his favorites, they got all of the opportunities, and everyone else just got to watch and wait their turn. That isn't how you build a deep sustainable program year after year. I was so happy when Auburn took him off of our hands...
