Boise State adds O-line transfer from
Quote from Bronco7454 on April 22, 2024, 9:11 amSan Jose State. Jake Steele to be precise. Steele did not start any games last season for the Spartans but he did play in 12 of their 13 games last season. He was listed at 6' 4" 306 lbs on the SJS 2023 roster and as a RS Freshman last season. So he has three years of eligibility remaining.

This is a bit surprising as Boise State is 7 scholarships over the limit at present but I'm sure they know what they are doing and already know which current scholarship players will not be returning. It just means that at least 8 of those current scholarship players won't be back for 2024.
I'm fairly sure he's an interior O-lineman but when he was listed on the 2022 San Jose State 247 recruiting class he was listed as an offensive TACKLE.

Quote from Bronco7454 on April 22, 2024, 10:16 amSteele's brother, Jason Steele, is already a member of the Boise State football team. Jason played in 3 games last season on the O-line as a true Freshman and will be a RS Freshman for the 2024 season.

Quote from Bronco7454 on April 23, 2024, 8:21 amThe current number of scholarship Boise State football players on campus right now is 82. And there are now - with the addition of Jake Steele - a total of 11 players who will be joining the team in August. Those 11 players scheduled to join the team in August are:
QB - Kaleb Arnett - True Freshman
RB - Dylan Riley - True Freshman
WR - Tyrone Jackson - True Freshman
WR - Cameron Bates - True Freshman
OL - Jake Steele - 2024 RS Sophomore
OL - Daylon Metoyer - 2024 Junior (J.C. transfer)
OL - Eyitayo Omitinugbon - True Freshman
OL - Gregory Bienvenue - True Freshman
DE - Connor Warkentin - True Freshman
DT - Hayden Hanks - True Freshman
LB - Udoka Ezeani - RS Junior (J.C. transfer)
That would bring the total number up to 93. Meaning Boise State will have to have 8 current players on scholarship leave the team prior to August OR some of the incoming August freshmen will have to be gray-shirted next fall and - like LB Syncere Brackett.

Quote from Bronco7454 on April 24, 2024, 6:11 amI didn't want to name anyone by name (earlier) but Misa was on my list of probable guys who would be departing soon.
My list had the following:
2 WR's
1 O-lineman
1 DE
1 DT
2 LB's (one of whom was Misa)

Quote from Bronco7454 on April 24, 2024, 6:22 amAnd according to The Idaho Statesman James Wilborn (DE) has also entered the TP. He was the one DE on my list. So I guess I'm three for three so far. Not that that is something to be proud of.

Quote from BroncoChief on April 24, 2024, 10:19 amNow, more than ever, a player must really perform annually to stay on a team. There are a lot of transfers to choose from. The portal goes both ways where players depart for more money or a better opportunity and coaches can upgrade the team and ask a player to leave. It’s the age of the revolving door in college sports.

Quote from Railroader on April 24, 2024, 11:39 amThe TP is catch-22. The really big gorilla is NIL. There is only so much money to be had. Eventually, the big money donors will get tired of shoveling money to players that jump to other teams for bigger paydays. Hopefully that moment will come soon a give some sanity to the transfer game. Money got to dry up a bit. Once normalized we can see better team stability.
Go Broncos!
