Bronco Nation News is counting down the 25 most important players to the Boise State football team in 2022. Next up in our series is No. 5, wide receiver Stefan Cobbs:
The departure of Khalil Shakir to the NFL leaves the Broncos looking for a new No. 1 wide receiver. Stefan Cobbs appears to be that guy.
The redshirt junior was second on the team with 34 catches for 421 yards and five touchdowns last season, but could see those numbers double if he stays healthy and rises to the occasion as the top option for quarterback Hank Bachmeier.
Boise State has little proven depth behind Cobbs, which makes him so important to the offense in 2022. He’s played in 22 games the past three season, but finally emerged as a legit threat at wide receiver last season.
He also is dangerous on special teams. Cobbs scored an 81-yard touchdown on his first and only punt return of the season against UTEP, which was enough to land him on the All-Mountain West Second Team at punt returner. He also led the Broncos with 200 kick return yards on 10 returns.
The Broncos badly need Cobbs to stay healthy and produce at a near-Khalil Shakir level in 2022, which is why he lands at No. 5 on our list of the most important players to the Broncos this fall.
Here’s a video of B.J. Rains and Jay Tust discussing Cobbs at No. 5 on our list. The talk starts at 23:55 into the video:
