Win vs Wyoming

First off, what a game. It had a bit of everything. Explosive offensive plays, stops on Defense, guys stepping up while we are dealing with quite a few injuries.

Offensively: We moved the ball pretty much at will tonight but couldnt quite finish some drives. Holani+Jeanty+Green+run blocking from the O line really carried the offense tonight. Holani and Jeanty both were finishing of their runs with authority in the cold weather. Mid way through the 1st quarter you could tell those 2 were going to leave it all on the field tonight. As much as we have criticized our offensive line this season (deservedly so) boy have they stepped up their game during this 6 game stretch. Same can be said about the WR group as well. They have also embraced the challenge of stepping up and making plays for our young QB. I really felt terrible for Holani on the fumble. The guy never fumbles and you know how hard on himself he must have been. Also happy that when he came back to the sidelines he was surrounded by his brothers letting him know that they were going to pick him up and get the W. We again see Taylen Green continue to evolve as a QB. This game was no different. We saw great maturation when he didnt like what he saw and make sure to throw the ball away to live another down. Also loved that he started to keep some of the option plays even if the defense didnt crash down on the inside run and letting his athletic ability to take over and get positive runs.

Defensively: I know there's going to the be the people who will want to say that this defense is overrated, "Danielson sucks", " cAnT sToP aCtUaL oFfEnSes"  blah blah blah. These dudes are starting to get thin on depth which is never a good thing but they continued to battle and stay in the fight even after giving up big plays. None of them were hanging their heads and feeling sorry for themselves. They would get up, dust themselves off and start fighting back each and every time. Forcing 3 turnovers should not go unnoticed. The Robinson INT to start the 2nd half really felt like that turned the tides in our favor for the rest of the game. Wyoming was driving on us and looking to go up 2 possessions again and who knows what would have happened after that if they did score on that particular drive. I get it, never good to give up over 250 yards rushing and near 7 YPC average. Sometimes we as fans need to give the opposing teams their credit. Wyoming is no slouch on the offensive line and no shortage of good RBs. They came in knowing they were not going to have much success throwing the ball and were still able to run it down our throats even though we knew it was coming. My hats off to them. They certainly have some dudes and at times it surely felt like we were never going to be able to slow them down.

Overall: Super proud of this team for continuing to find a way. This truly feels like a different team and that Coach Avalos' vision of "rebuilding the foundation" is starting to come true. I dont know if we win this type of game last year if I am being honest. Players are buying in and you can tell they love playing for one another and their coaches. Lets do our part these next 2 weeks (If financially able to of course) and send our Seniors off on the right note and help them secure 2 Ws on The Blue with a packed house. They have certainly earned it!

I do think the players have a lot of fight still and have played well overall, but I also think they have a lot more to grow.
