South Dakota State

Its a bummer to lose that game after how hard our guys battled back but the Jack Rabbits are a good team and were able to make just 1 more shot than we could. It wasnt the prettiest game offensively for us for majority of the game but the guys did a good job of getting settled down in critical points of the game and started making some shots. Rice and Shaver laid it all out there tonight. Those guys are going to be extremely tired come the Wazzu game. Disappointing start to Agbo's BSU career but I think he will be fine in the long run. Got a few cheap fouls on him early and was just never able to get himself into a rhythm. Wasnt a ton of scoring by our team. Only 6 guys scored but 2 of the guys only finished with 2 points. Rice, Shaver, Deggie and Smith (who came off the bench) carried the majority of the offense. We were able to see glimpses of Whiting. He looks like he can be a factor as the season progresses and if Rice ends up missing any time. Looks like a high IQ player and didnt feel like he got overwhelmed at all. Our guys will respond. This is a good team and we played a really good team tonight and just fell short

Nice rundown BSUAddict.  I’d like to add that our bigs didn’t show much of anything.  I think the rest of the team will be outstanding, but having to use Deggie at the 5 could wear him down over the long haul.  I think Milner is a good complement, but I question if he can adequately hold down the position.  Milner and Sylla played a total of 19 minutes, had 6 rebounds and scored 0 points. 6’11” Burke Smith is still a no-show.  I question if he will ever be a productive player for BSU.  It will be tough to win against quality teams with this lack of production in the middle.

Could Sadraque NgaNga be an option?  He is 6’10”, but is very raw.  He is listed as a guard which means he is very athletic.  It would be one option to get him some meaningful minutes and provide The Broncos with an athletic big.  I am sure there are reasons and other happenings behind the scenes that I am not privy to, it is my initial observation.

Long season with tons of promise.  Next up is Washington State on Saturday night at 5.  A rare BB/FB double header.  Go Broncos!

It definitely does seem like the Center position could be our one glaring weakness on this team. Milner has the offensive ability (didnt show last night) to be solid but it seems like he still lacks in strength down low against other bigs. Sylla seems more of the opposite.  Not as strong offensively but can hold his own when it comes to the physical nature of the position. Concern with him for me is it seems like he may be a guy who eats up fouls and not be able to create his own shot in the paint unless its a simple catch and dunk. I think one of the big reasons the staff had Deggie gain about 15-20 pounds (good weight gain) in the offseason was so he could bang down low if we needed him to against other bigs. I dont want to see him have to do it on a consistent basis cause my fear is like yours. I could see him wearing down late in the year if we have to utilize him consistently like that.

NgaNga is interesting cause of all the hype. I highly doubt we will see him rotate in at Center this season until we can get him built up muscle wise and be able to withstand it. I think he is coming off an injury he had in high school as well so we may only see him for 5 mins a game this season unless it becomes clear that he needs to be getting significantly more minutes and is producing
