Mountain West brings back the MWC softball championship tournament

For the first time since 2006, the conference will sponsor a tournament that will determine the recipient of the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. San Diego State will host the 2023 conference tournament.

Very much needed. Its just overall a way better way to determine a conference champion rather than just reward the best regular season team only.

I agree that the MWC softball tournament is needed.   However the downside is a team can be dominant during the regular season and then have a bad day in the tournament and get beat.

I am assuming that the reason why SDSU was appointed to host the 2023 MWC Softball tournament is because SDSU was the 2022 MWC softball champion (JUST BARELY).

Its definitely a double edge sword. Shoot, happened with our volleyball team last season. Entered the tourny in the 6th seed and end up winning it all. I just like the tourny aspect more. I wouldnt mind either if the previous years winners hosts the tournament the next season. Kind of gives teams more incentives to do well. Could mean homefield advantage and such rather than just picking a random rotation of locations.
