MBB Exhibition

Good to see this year’s team get out and stretch their legs a bit.  Coach Rice ran 12 different players onto the court.  A few takeaways:

1. This team is long and talented

2. Chibuzo Agbo (Texas Tech transfer) comes as advertised.  He will be a great addition and will soften the loss of Abu Kigab to graduation.

3. Until others develop (Mr Nganga et all) the big 3 will be Degenhart, Shaver, and Agbo

4. The center position will be the weakest link…not saying they are bad, just not as talented as the other positions.  Milner looks like he put on some weight which will help for the long season.  Mohamed Sylla is a big body that an athletic center should take advantage of.  Burke Smith moves well. I don’t why he doesn’t play a bit more.

5. Jace Whiting is the scrapper and adds energy when he was on the floor.  The guard from Burley can score too putting up 9 points.  He could find some playing time off the bench.

6. Also bidding for some playing time is Kobe Young. You can tell he possesses some talent on the floor.

Too bad the crowd wasn’t larger for this MW defending championship team.  They have earned a better following and are promising this year too.

Hopefully a much larger crowd for the season opener on Wednesday the 9th at 7 PM.  I realize South Dakota isn’t the sexiest brand of basketball, but they did win 30 games and made it to the field of 64 in the NCAA tournament last year.

Go Broncos!

Agree with pretty much all of this. Thought Chibuzo looked good. The big three of Buzo, Degenhart and Shaver will be awesome this year. How they do will come down to the other guys and who can step up as a consistent scorer (Rice, Smith, Sada, etc.).

Liked what I saw from Whiting, he surprised me. Sounds like he'll be the backup point guard.

Sada is a big question mark. Tons of talent, but still appears a bit raw. He only played seven minutes, but guess what? In the regular season opener last year against Utah Valley, Degenhart played...7 minutes.

Lots of time still! Overall I thought they looked pretty good. Some big early season games, so we'll find out about this team pretty soon.
