Boise State softball wins game 1 vs. U.N.L.V.

Boise State scored the first run in the top half of the 4th inning in their game last night against U.N.L.V. but the Rebels went ahead in the bottom half of the 4th and led 2-1 after four.  But Boise State rallied back with 3 runs in the 6th inning to re-take the lead 4-2 before U.N.L.V. added their final run in the bottom half of the 6th inning.  Neither team scored in the 7th and the final score was Boise State 4 - U.N.L.V. 3 in the first Mountain West Conference game of the season for both teams.

Lindsay Walljasper got the win despite yeilding all three runs to U.N.L.V. (2 earned runs) and Taylor Caudill picked up the Save with two solid innings of relief pitching (including 4 strikeouts).

The 2nd game of this three game MWC series is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. MT this afternoon and can be watched via the Mountain West Network.  However you will probably have to once again hear nothing but the voice of the guy who repeatedly mispronounced Sydney Groves last name as "Grov-US".   I've never watched a softball game before where there is no noise of the actual game itself - just the sound of the announcer.  Very weird IMO.

The only other MWC softball game yesterday that was completed was Colorado State beating San Diego State 10-5.

Nevada and San Jose State played a game yesterday but due to a protest lodged by the Nevada head coach - regarding San Jose State using an ineligible player in the 7th inning - that game will be replayed today from the point where the ineligible player entered the game.  San Jose State had won that game 5-4 in the 7th before the Nevada coach lodged her protest about the ineligible player.

The New Mexico vs. Utah State game also began but did not end last night.  That game went to extra innings but was paused after the 7th inning.  That game will re-start today at 1 p.m. MT. followed by their 2nd game in that 3 game MWC series.  That first game was tied 4-4 with 2 outs in the top of the eighth inning before the game was paused with New Mexico at bat with runners on 1st and 2nd base.

Fresno State lost two games yesterday to Loyola Marymout by scores of 3-4 and 1-2.

Utah State won game one of their 3 game series vs New Mexico 5-4 in the bottom of the 10th inning.
