Boise State’s improbable late-season run will include a chance to play UCLA in the Los Angeles Bowl at SoFi Stadium on Dec. 16th at 5:30 p.m. MT on ABC.
The Broncos were assured of playing in the LA Bowl after Saturday’s 44-20 win over UNLV in the Mountain West Championship. The opponent was unknown – and the Broncos landed a big one in the Bruins.
It will be Boise State’s second straight game in an NFL stadium. SoFi Stadium is host to the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.
Boise State (8-5) will try to cap one of the most memorable seasons in program history with a ninth win. It’s a crazy scenario nobody would have seen coming a few weeks ago. Heck, after a 37-30 loss to Fresno State some where wondering if the Broncos would win two of the final three and qualify for a bowl.
But the Broncos have won four straight, three under interim coach Spencer Danielson, and will surge into the LA Bowl with a wave of momentum.
There are plenty of positives to the LA Bowl, notably the early date to allow players and staff to be done with the season prior to Christmas. Playing a PAC-12 team on national television in an NFL Stadium – in a big recruiting target – add to the appeal.
The LA Bowl was started in 2021 after the Las Vegas Bowl dropped its tie-in with the Mountain West. In each of the two previous LA Bowl games, the Mountain West team has topped the PAC 12 team. Utah State topped Oregon State in 2021 and Fresno State topped Washington State last year.
This will mark the second time Boise State has played UCLA. The Broncos lost 38-7 in 1999.
