The Boise State football team has added a second former five-star prospect to the roster in less than three weeks.
This one comes with a bit of a risk, but the payoff could be tremendous.
The Broncos announced the signing of Kilgore Junior College transfer Chris Marshall on Wednesday. Marshall previously was at Texas A&M and Ole Miss but faced disciplinary issues at both schools.
Marshall was a five-star prospect and the No. 24 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class before signing with the Aggies. But he was suspended twice there and eventually transferred to Ole Miss, where he was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules shortly after. He enrolled at Kilgore Junior College and played there in 2023.
He was named the No. 1 junior college prospect by 247Sports in the 2024 recruiting class.
“We are excited to have Chris join our program and add some depth to our receiver corps,” Danielson said in a release. “He has tremendous speed, impressive hands and the ability to play at the next level. But more than that, he is a hard-working young man that wants to contribute to this team and win. I look forward to seeing that energy and effort out of him this spring.”
Marshall had 21 catches for 449 yards and five touchdowns in six games at Kilgore. He had 60 catches for 1,475 yards and 29 touchdowns during his final two years at Fort Bend High School in Missouri City, Texas.
The Broncos are essentially giving Marshall the spring to prove to coaches and teammates that his previous issues are behind him. They aren’t calling it a tryout, but one can assume he won’t have much room for error given his past. According to sources Marshall knows this is his last chance and is eager to prove himself. The Broncos, sources said, vetted Marshall’s past for several weeks before electing to offer him a scholarship. They also have a plan in place this spring to help him succeed.
Boise State’s wide receiver group could be significantly improved in 2024 with the additions of Marshall and former Indiana wide receiver Cam Camper. Latrell Caples, who led the Broncos in receiving in 2022, also will be back after missing all of 2023 due to a knee injury. Austin Bolt and Prince Strachan are expected to make improvements as well.
Marshall is the second former five-star prospect to sign with Boise State this month. He joins former USC quarterback Malachi Nelson, who joined the Broncos two weeks ago.
This gives me comfort with this recruit:

I hope leadership has the courage to cut a productive player is they violate the plan to get them back on track if need be.
