Boise State quarterback Taylen Green announced Monday he plans to enter the transfer portal, but is keeping open the option to return to Boise State.
Whether the Broncos would still welcome him back is another question.
Green, who was the Offensive Player of the Game in Boise State’s Mountain West Championship victory over UNLV just two days ago on Saturday, posted his intentions with a message to Twitter:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV pic.twitter.com/FHR2qpbwli— Taylen Green (@taylengreen17) December 4, 2023
Green was the first Boise State quarterback since 2014 to account for two rushing and two passing touchdowns in the same game against UNLV. He was 12 for 15 for 226 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
For the season Green completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,752 yards and 11 touchdowns to go along with nine interceptions. He also rushed for 436 yards and nine touchdowns.
Green saw his playing time dwindle in favor of backup Maddux Madsen midway through the season, and eventually lost his starting spot to Madsen for the New Mexico game. But Madsen suffered a season-ending injury that night and Green retook the starting spot and played nearly every snap at quarterback the past three games.
If Green indeed leaves, Boise State would be left with true freshman CJ Tiller or walk-on Colt Fulton as the available options at quarterback for the LA Bowl against UCLA on Dec. 16.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated…
Didn’t the UCLA starting QB leave this week too? It is not a great spot to be left with a young walk on and a true freshman…but I am still of the opinion that we don’t want players to be here that don’t want to be here. That’s not gonna do anyone any good. Not the team or the player. Every year the transfer portal breaks a record for most players entered. Didn’t it go from 750+\- last year to like 4000+\- today? This is college football. If Green doesn’t want to play here, let’s find someone who does. The real sad part, every year, is the player who gave up a scholarship and didn’t get picked up in the portal…or barely got picked up and now is in a much worse position.
