Ashton Jeanty had 19 rushes for 169 yards and a touchdown and surpassed the 2,000-yard rushing mark for the season in Boise State’s 17-13 comeback win at Wyoming on Saturday night.
The win clinched a perfect 7-0 conference season for the Broncos and a spot in the Mountain West championship game on Dec. 6th.
Jeanty scored on a 61-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and then had two big runs on Boise State’s game-winning touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter in a game the Broncos found a way to win despite not playing one of their better games of the season.
“Proud of our guys for battling,” coach Spencer Danielson told reporters in Laramie after the game. “There’s a lot of things on film we have to clean up. … But proud of our guys for never flinching.”
“That’s championship football – on the road in late November and finding a way to win.”
It’s the fourth undefeated conference season in the last six years for Boise State (10-1), which should move up in the CFP rankings due to several teams losing in front of them.
With both Colorado and BYU losing Saturday, the Broncos appear to have a great shot at landing a first-round bye in the playoffs should they win their remaining two games.
Boise State trailed 13-10 midway through the fourth quarter before scoring on a 2-yard run from Breezy Dubar to retake the lead with 5:02 to go. The Broncos stopped Wyoming on fourth down to get the ball back, and then stopped a Hail Mary attempt on the final play to escape with a much needed victory.
“Our guys are battle tested,” Danielson said. “Our guys kept battling. They stayed in it and they kept swinging, and that’s a championship team.”
Jeanty, already Boise State’s single-season rushing record holder, moved into second place on the career rushing list with 4,230 yards. He’s the first FBS player since Troy Davis in 1996 to rush for at least 125 rushing yards in each of his first 11 games. Jeanty also broke the program record for most 100-yard rushing games in a single season.
Cam Camper had five catches for 73 yards for Boise State, while Latrell Caples added three catches for 51 yards. Zion Washington had nine tackles and also forced a fumble on defense.
Boise State finishes up the regular season at home on Black Friday for a 10 a.m. kickoff on Senior Day at Albertsons Stadium against Oregon State in a game that will air nationally on FOX.
